H.S. football playoffs will expand this year by PETER STEIN
(May 10, 2012); NJHerald
If you like postseason high school football, you should like it even more this fall, when the playoff field is expanded by 32 teams with the addition of a fifth group in each of the four public-school sections.
The resolution to put that new structure in place was approved Wednesday by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association's executive committee in a 21-5 vote.
Adding a new group to each of the North 1, North 2, Central and South sections adds an eight-team playoff field to each, resulting in the 32 extra teams. It will re-structure the number of public schools in each section, reducing most sections from 19 to 15. The non-public schools were unaffected by Wednesday's vote. read more

Where will Joe go? Hopatcong alum could be picked in NFL draft by PETER STEIN
(Apr 26, 2012); NJHerald
Joe Martinek will play pro football in the fall. Bank on it.
Martinek has a Division I background from Rutgers. At 6 feet tall and 224 pounds, he has pro football size. And the work ethic is there, too.
So even if this weekend comes and goes without Martinek's name being announced at the 77th annual NFL draft, which began Thursday, his path to the league should still be as open as the paths he cleared for his teammates as a Rutgers fullback last season. read more
