Vic Paternostro: remembering a coaching legend by Paul Mencher
(Feb 04, 2012); All Sports Media North
Sometimes a person and a place are in such perfect harmony, that it's hard to imagine that person anyplace else. Such was the case with Vic Paternostro, the legendary Pope John football coach who passed away this week.
Paternostro grew up in Lyndhurst and attended Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington. But when you say his name you can think of only one place. Paternostro spent 44 years at Pope John, 43 as the varsity football coach. And while tributes have poured in the wake of his death, more people seem to want to talk about Vic Paternostro the math teacher, or the father figure, than the football coach. read more

Football: Moore remembers Paternostro on National Signing Day by PETER STEIN
(Feb 02, 2012); NJHerald
SPARTA — How fitting it was that Pope John senior Malachi Moore signed his letter of intent to play Division I college football for Boston College on Wednesday, two days after the passing of longtime Lions football coach Vic Paternostro.
The biggest and best part of Paternostro's legacy was likely his impact on young athletes, how he made them strive to reach their fullest potential.
It was Paternostro who coached Moore at the high school varsity football level, who first presented Moore with the prospect of playing for Boston College. read more
